The Rumour Mill – Luciano Narsingh

Luciano Narsingh in action for Herenveen

Luciano Narsingh With an astounding Premier League season for Newcastle now over, it’s time to switch our attentions to the transfer rumours circulating St. James’ Park.

It is now vitally important that Graham Carr and co. uncover some real gems with the Europa League campaign just round the corner. And Herenveen’s Luciano Narsingh could be just the player.

The 21 year old is a relative unknown to many English fans, so I feel it necessary to dive straight in with a more than impressive statistic; the midfielder has 8 goals and 22 assists in 34 Eredivise games this season. Some readers may have seen my article on Sochaux’s Marvin Martin, the apparent unrivalled pass master. But with Narsingh bettering those stats and having less exposure, this could be the man who United should go for if we are to manage our finances efficiently.

Capable of operating on the wing and as an attacking midfielder, Narsingh would add to the side’s versatility and give the midfield a new dimension. Wingers Ben Arfa and Gutierrez are notorious for their dribbling and engine respectively. Narsingh on the other hand would offer pinpoint passing which Cisse and Ba could feed on.

My one concern would be whether he could make the step up from the Eredivise to the Premier League. Judging by a number of clips which I’ve seen of him, Narsingh seems to thrive when having a lot of time and space. The youngster wouldn’t enjoy as much freedom against top rate English sides.

The good news is that Narsingh is in Bert van Marwijk’s 27 man provisional Netherlands squad, so there’s a chance that we can make a solid judgment on him during the Euros. The Netherlands have produced some of the world’s best midfielders over the past few decades, and the fact that Narsingh is already training with the likes of Robben and Sneijder is a credit to his abilities.

But any approach for him won’t be straight forward. Rumours are that Arsenal and Fulham are also monitoring him, with the latter having apparently offered him a stadium tour last week.

But if Luciano wants to play European football and be a first team regular, there’s only one place he should be going to.
