Newcastle Set for Dutch Pre-season Friendly

There are reports coming out of Holland today that the club will be playing a pre-season match against Dutch side ADO Den Haag on Saturday, 4th August at the Kyocera Stadium.

The Club have only announced four pre-season matches so far, with a number of other teams claiming interest in playing the Toon. With games lined up in Greece, Portugal, England and Wales, the club looks like it could be going over to Holland.

Holland has been talked about a lot in relation to Newcastle United this season. With the club being linked with numerous Dutch players – Luuk de Jong (FC Twente), Douglas (FC Twente), Vernun Anita (Ajax), Stefan de Vrij (Feyenoord) and Adam Maher (AZ Alkmaar) – we are set to extend our affiliation with the country.

This is Newcastle’s current official schedule:

Date Team Location
27 July 2012 Olympiacos Algarve Stadium, Faro, Portugal
28 July 2012 FC Porto Algarve Stadium, Faro, Portugal
1 Aug 2012 Gateshead International Stadium, Gateshead
11 Aug 2012 Cardiff Cardiff City Stadium

And both Monaco and German third division side FC Chemnitzer have previously announced they will also be playing Newcastle in pre-season, with these dates announced:

  • July 13 – Friday – Chemnitzer FC at the Stadion an der Gellertstraße
  • July 16 – Monday – AS Monaco at Landsberg am Lech

ADO Den Haag play in the Eredivisie and last season finished in 15th position, which was 4th bottom, and avoided the drop by a good 8 points. Their biggest player, Rydell Poepon, was formerly linked with Newcastle United a couple of seasons ago.

What do you think? Know anything about these potential opponents?
