Newcastle Set To Miss Out On Two Targets

Junior Hoilett is close to agreeing a deal with Borussia Monchengladbach, Sky Sports understands.

Sources in Germany have confirmed to Sky Sports that the former Blackburn winger is expected in the country this weekend to conclude a deal.

The 22-year-old had spoken with a number of clubs, including Tottenham, Liverpool and Newcastle, but the favourite had appeared to be the keen-to-revamp QPR who are just off the back of signing ladies favourite Ji Sung Park from Manchester United.

He was released last season from Blackburn Rovers after his contract ran out. The club had made attempts to tie him up to a new contract, but he did not fancy plying his trade in the Championship:  it’s safe to say he’s not staying Mr Kean.

He confirmed a few weeks ago that it was his dream to play in the Champions League, and with Borussia Monchengladbach that would be possible.

In addition, Hoilett has strong connections in Germany having spent two years playing on loan there earlier in his career.

His brother also plays professional football in Germany and the chance for the family to be close is believed to be a big factor in the decision.

As it stands Hoilett is now due to fly to Germany in the next 24 hours to try and wrap up a move to Gladbach, so it appears as though the club have missed out on a real gem. The only thing which perhaps would have put Pardew off the midfielder is his high wage demands.

It’s probably a good thing that he is set to move to Germany. we need a new attacking wide player, and to be drawn into the player’s financial demands would be perhaps unnecessary. We can attract a higher quality of player for lower wages.

Elsewhere, Southampton have been given permission to speak to Crystal Palace defender, Nathaniel Clyne. The Right back has been heavily linked with the Toon this Summer, but with Debuchy set to sign over the next few days, it looks as though our interest has cooled for the England U21 international.
