Toon Target Set to Join Valencia

Newcastle United target, Aly Cissokho has agreed terms with Spanish club, Valencia, and the transfer is set to be confirmed imminently.

Cissokho, who had been repeatedly linked with the Toon at the beginning of the window, is set to sign for the team who finished 3rd in La Liga last season, behind the Spanish heavyweights, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Cissokho joined Lyon from FC Porto for a reported €15 million in July 2009 after a potential transfer to AC Milan fell through. Now deemed surplus to requirements at the Stade Gerland, and having been criticised publicly by the Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, the full-back will be happy to leave the French club.

He is seen as the direct replacement for Jordi Alba who joined Barcelona earlier this Summer. He will be joining the likes of Roberto Soldado and Sergio Canales in the East of Spain.

Matthieu Debuchy is another name that has been linked with the club continuously, and he could well be the next name through the door. But with the transfer window drawing to a close, the chances of the club signing a new defender are looking less and likely.

It seems as though the club are beginning to lose out on transfers and Mike Ashley doesn’t appear to be willing to match the asking prices on several players; whether that is good or bad remains to be seen.
