Poll – Which Area Do We Most Need Strengthening In January?

With still 7 weeks until the January transfer window opens, there are still a lot of matches to play. However, as is the often the case, rumours have been flying out from all over the place. From the exciting (Moussa Sissoko) to the downright ridiculous (Ryan Babel). I's unlikely we'll be making any major changes in January, so here we a have a look at which area we should be prioritizing. 

The goalkeeping department is most definitely secure, with Tim Krul continuing to show why he is one of the best young keepers around at the moment. Rob Elliot has also shown himself as a worthy back-up, putting in some sterling performances in Europe this season.

A lot has been made of Alan Pardew’s shortlist of 7 central defenders and it’s looking likely that Pardew will be wanting to strengthen in this area. But do we really need another center-back , when we’ve got two fantastic defenders in Coloccini and Taylor?

The recent Debuchy comments regarding Newcastle’s approach in the Summer, also add something to the mix. Whether we’ll go back in for him in January remains to be seen, but it does appear that Danny Simpson’s time at Newcastle is running out.

In midefield we’re looking pretty strong. While our central partnership of Tiote and Cabaye is one of the best in the league, I can’t help but feel we need a bit more class on the wing. Ben Arfa is obviously one of our best players, but Gutierrez doesn’t particularly excite me. I feel we need a bit more pace, and a better delivery to get the most out of our Senegalese strike force.

Finally, there is still some discontent regarding the strikers. Although they have shown that, individually, they can be unstoppable, they have yet to find the magic formula when playing together. Furthermore, the question of Demba Ba’s future adds weight to this argument.
