With the transfer for Marseille striker Loic Remy still very much in doubt, manager Alan Pardew is reportedly looking at Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a possible alternative.
Aubameyang has been linked with a summer move to the Premier League but with Newcastle scrabbling to fill the void left by Demba Ba, sources close to the 23-year-old suggest that Newcastle is keen on making a move for the forward now.
Recent reports have suggested that Remy might be looking to the Bundesliga instead. Aubameyang would likely come at a lower price and is younger than the Marsaille forward. He is reportedly valued at £6.2m.
Aubameyang’s game is widely considered to be well suited to the English game and he has been on target so far this year with Saint-Étienne. Scoring 8 goals in 18 matches in the Ligue 1 this season.
Aubameyang is known for his pace, and Pardew has said in the past that he could form an excellent partnership with Papiss Cisse. He has also notched several assists for his French club so far this season.
However, he has been known to generate unwanted attention. Before a December 9th match against Olympique Lyonnais, he donned a pair of football cleats reportedly encrusted with over 4,000 Swarovski crystals, worth approximately £2,500.
Do you think he’d be a good fit for nufc?
