Video – Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa Looks A Great Fit

Newcastle appear set to add to their ever increasing rank of French players with Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa from Montpellier, with the two clubs agreeing a £6.7 million fee.

The 23 year old defender was an integral part of the side that clinched the title last season in France, appearing 32 times. Over his six years playing professionally for Montpellier, he made 168 appearances and scored four goals.

Below is a video of Yanga-Mbiwa in action, showing just what Newcastle fans can expect to be seeing. He’s strong, quick, and exceptional in the air. A look at his performances for Montpellier shows just how comfortable he is on the ball, yet also strong and unforgiving in the tackle. This could just be what Newcastle need, as Williamson is often uncomfortable in possession.

While ideally he could play alongside captain Coloccini, if the Argentinian does return home for personal reasons Newcastle will hope they’ve signed a more than adequate replacement. Arsenal were rumoured to be interested, so if the deal does go through it can be regarded as a major coup for the Magpies. They now must hope they don’t suffer the same fate as they did in their chase for Loic Remy, who opted to join QPR at the last minute.

  1. Looks strong and skillfull. We need all of that and more at the moment.

  2. With a tactical manager like AP, he will probably play him with Williamson and blame the weather when it doesnt work
