Could Moussa Sissoko be the missing piece of the jigsaw?

Moussa Sissoko in action for Newcastle United

Over the past few months, the source of conversation for many pub dwellers in the heart of Newcastle was a simple question: “Why can’t Ba & Cisse work well together?”

But with the former having left for Chelsea, Papiss has been given an opportunity to spark his Newcastle career into life once more. To do that, however, Cisse needs players around him that can supply him with the chances he craves. And the club might have just found that person in the form of Moussa Sissoko.

Admittedly, it’s still early doors, but it is evident that our new French import has struck up an understanding with our Senegalese front man. Just nineteen minutes into his debut for the club, Sissoko dissected the Villa defence to feed Cisse in on goal before he put his effort away. The move exemplified the possibility of Cisse thriving up front on his own with support coming from the advanced midfield position instead of being forced to play on the wing when Ba was present.

Despite a more than satisfactory start to his Toon career in midweek, it was yesterday’s match against Chelsea which showed us all what the attacking midfield giant can offer us.

Not only did he manage to show his prowess in front of goal with a tidy brace, the 23 year old was able to show the St James’ Park faithful his sheer power and pace when moving forward with the ball, often bulldozing through experienced centre backs Terry & Cahill. Moreover, Sissoko showed a natural intelligence for the game, constantly putting himself in dangerous positions between the midfield and defence, causing havoc when he had time to stretch his legs and bear through on goal.

It certainly has been a terrific start to Moussa Sissoko’s Newcastle career. Naturally, I don’t want to get carried away, but for a man who cost us £2m, I think this lad could be an integral part of our squad for many seasons to come.

Not only is he incredibly talented himself, but I can also see potential for a strong link between himself and Cisse. Only time will tell us if it all pans out as we want it to.

What do you think?

Utter rubbish this. Did you watch the game yesterday? Sissoko was magnificent. Cisse was AWFUL. Cisse is a shocking footballer, and Newcastle fans need to wake up and realise this. There was no link-up at all.

    • Charlie you speak utter rubbish. Sissoko was amazing yesterday your right about that, but to say Cisse is a shockin talent shows you have no clue about football at all. He banged in 12 goals in 13 games or so last season and only signed in january 2012. He still gets in goal scoring positions and has a great touch.

I’m a season ticket holder, I’ve seen Cisse on at least 10 occasions this season, don’t tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about. Cisse yesterday was just like he has been all season – committing niggly fouls, standing offside for 80% of the time and missing great chances. 3 clear cut chances yesterday, all missed.
