Newcastle Win MatchDay Hospitality Award

UK football clubs celebrate: The Official Football Hospitality Awards 2013

Naturally, the most well-documented aspect of a football club is indeed the football. But, this week 300 guests from football stadia across the country have celebrated perhaps the lesser recognized part of a football club, the ‘off the pitch’ successes at The Official Football Hospitality Awards 2013.

And this year, Newcastle United’s  catering, conference and events teams have taken home a myriad of awards, winning no less than four!

Organised by Stadium Experience, the Awards were held at the Madejski Stadium, home of Reading Football Club.  43 different football clubs were eligible for at least one of 18 possible awards. Some awards were entered by the club themselves, and others by nominations from fans, media and other club directors.

All areas of this vital part of the business operation of football clubs were represented at the ceremony: from chefs, waiting staff and kitchen porters to catering directors and catering teams from the Premier League to League Division 2.

And Newcastle United’s back-backroom staff won BRONZE in Chef Team of the Year, Michael Moran won BRONZE in the Special Achievement Award category, the club won GOLD in The Green Hospitality Award, having become the world’s first Club to become carbon positiveand finally BRONZE in the Overall Matchday Hospitality Experience award.

Though the footballing side of this season hasn’t been great, it’s refreshing to see we’re at least doing something right.

Well done to everyone involved in the awards!
