Paddy power Publish Odds for Next Newcastle Manager

odds 2   Paddy Power have released the odds for the next Newcastle manager.

The favorite, with odds of 5/2, is currently David Moyes, having been sacked as Manchester united boss on Tuesday. I personally think that he would be a brilliant fit at Newcastle.

First, Moyes’ style of play would very much suit the players Newcastle have on their books. Yohan Cabaye may now be gone, but in Moussa Sissoko, Vernon Anita and Cheick Tiote, the Scot would have the kind of athletic and technical players he loves to coach.

Newcastle’s squad is also packed with physically powerful players who can easily go for a more blunt, direct style of play when required. Many of their best results this season have actually come from hitting opponents hard rather than out-playing them, such as the win over Chelsea in November.

While managing Everton, Moyes helmed the team to nine top 10 finishes and five top 6 finishes in the eleven years he was there. Furthermore, European qualification was achieved four times in five seasons between 2004 and 2009. And all of this was attained on a shoe-string budget.

The joint second favourites to join Newcastle are Roberto Di Matteo and former Toon player, Lee Clark, currently at Birmingham. Though I believe Di Matteo would be a strong candidate for the job, I do no think Lee Clark would be ready to step up to Premier League managment just yet. Birmingham currently sit 17th in the Championship, and I don’t feel he could offer much more than what Pardew is doing (or at least trying to do) at the moment.

My first choice for the job, however, Michael Laudrup, is not even on the list, which is surprising. I think his style of play could do wonders for the Newcastle team, a side bustling with talent but which is being played in the wrong dynamic under Pardew’s 90s-esque long-ball football.

Elsewhere, if you’re feeling daring, Joey Barton has been given odds of 100/1 to take over at Newcastle! With Ryan Giggs’ recent appointment as interim boss at Manchester United, could this new player/manager dual role work at Newcastle?!

Who would be your favourite to land the job? At the moment, it is difficult to imagine Ashley ever sacking Pardew. But it doesn’t hurt to dream…
