The 24-year-old is keen to leave Marseille following their disappointing sixth place finish in Ligue 1 last season but his £60,000-a-week wages have put off Serie A rivals AC Milan and Napoli.
Ayew has seen his stock rise after an impressive World Cup for Ghana where he scored against the USA and Germany.
In May, he had this to say about a potential move to England:
“The Premier League is a league every player dreams about.
“The English league is the one most followed in Ghana. It’s true that I have a real preference for England.
“I like everything about it; the atmosphere, the game, the fans. There is a lot of intensity. It is a beautiful championship.”
