Newcastle Chasing Championship Player of the Month

Newcastle, along with a host of other Premier League clubs, are reportedly hot on the tail of Ipswich’s left-back, Tyrone Mings.

The left back has impressed immensely this season, and even managed to pick up the Player of the Month Award for September.

Despite starting his career in the Southampton academy, the lad failed to break into the first team, and instead dipped down into non-league football, playing for Chippenham Town. Ipswich picked him up in January 2013, however, for a mere £10,000.

It’s a remarkable change of fortune for the 21-year-old who has impressed this season in the left back role at Portman Road after taking over from Aaron Cresswell who joined West Ham United in the summer.

Newcastle United’s Peter Morris has been spotted at several of Ipswich’s league games this season, claims the Sunday People.

Mings was the subject of a failed £3 million bid from Crystal Palace during the summer transfer window, but the young defender chose to continue his development in the Championship.

If Newcastle were to pursue this initial interest, they would undoubtedly be acquiring one of the best young starlets in the Championship.
