Tavernier left Leeds United’s academy to join Newcastle in 2008 and made 11 appearances for the Premier League club.
He went on to have loan spells at Gateshead, Carlisle, Sheffield Wednesday, MK Dons, Shrewsbury and Rotherham before joining Wigan in the summer. He featured nine times so far this season for Wigan.
Steve Cotterill has apparently been pursuing Tavernier ever since he scored THAT incredible free-kick against City last season for Rotherham, and now he’s finally got his man.
This is what he had to say about the lad this afternoon:
“We were looking at James last year,” said Cotterill. “We’re pleased to be able to bring him on board, especially after losing Todd Kane, who was able to play that wing-back role as well.
“He’ll give us extra legs and quality during our run in.”
