This Championship Hotshot would be the Perfect Fit at Newcastle

A number of news outlets are this morning reporting that Newcastle are in the hunt for Chelsea hotshot, Patrick Bamford, currently on loan at Middlesbrough.

The striker, who has scored an impressive 19 goals in 35 games this year for the Smoggies, last week was awarded the Championship Player of the Year title, and has been heavily linked with a Premier League switch this Summer.

And with the Chronicle reporting this morning that Newcastle are looking to sign three strikers this Summer, Bamford may well be at the top of our list.

The 21-year-old signed for Chelsea from Nottingham Forest in January 2012 but has been shipped out on loan to MK Dons twice, Derby and now Middlesborough; leaving Bamford still eagerly awaiting the first team call from Jose Mourinho.

However, the reality of Bamford’s situation doesn’t bode well. As well as having Diego Costa, Loic Remy and Didier Drogba in the first team, youngsters Dominic Solanke and Isaiah Brown have recently been called up to the senior set up after impressing Mourinho whilst playing for the under-21 side.

Newcastle’s attacking options this year have been slim. Though Papiss Cisse has been in decent form up top, since his suspension, we have had to rely far too heavily on the young Ayoze Perez, whose contributions have been limited in terms of goal return. Elsewhere, Emmanuel Riviere seems completely out of depth at this level, and should be moved on in the Summer.

Though Newcastle might not be the most attractive prospect for a young player right now, Bamford may well be enticed by the opportunity to return to the North-East next year, an area which has provided furtile ground for his scoring exploits this season.

Elsewhere, United have been linked with Aleksandar Mitrovic of Anderlecht (whose football manager pedigree is promising) along with Charlie Austin of QPR. They have also supposedly made an enquiry about Burnley’s Danny Ings, who is set to leave Turf Moor at the end of the season.

But with transfer funds already promised this Summer by the Newcastle hierarchy, they would be mad not to go for a player like Bamford.
