Various news outlets are this morning reporting that Newcastle are considering making a bid for Liverpool and England U21 winger, Jordan Ibe.
It was assumed until recently that Ibe was set to join Bournemouth after Liverpool accepted their hefty £15m bid last week.
However, The Sunday Express are now suggesting that Ibe is stalling on the move to Bournemouth, and is willing to wait out for other offers.
It has been suggested in the press that Newcastle might harness Liverpool’s interest in Georginio Wijnaldum, and offer him as part of a swap deal plus cash.
Though Newcastle might not be able to offer him Premier League football immediately, the prospect of working under the tutorship of one of the world’s most successful managers might be enough to sway him.
Indeed, Newcastle have already managed to tempt one of Bournemouth’s star players to drop down a league this Summer, and if we were to pip them to this move as well, for a player who is arguably being brought into to replace the outgoing Ritchie, then we would have royally done Bournemouth over. Good banter.
The news in the Mirror today is that Liverpool agreed the £15M fee with Bournemouth on the premise that a buy-back and sell-on clause was in place in the contract. Nonetheless, whether Newcastle would be willing to agree to such a stipulation remains to be seen.
Would you be happy with Jordan Ibe at Newcastle? Or should we be concentrating on other targets?
